Hawaii VR is the recipient of the following two grants:
Comprehensive System for Personnel Development (CSPD)
The CSPD grant is a five-year Rehabilitation Long Term Training Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant is funded from October 1, 2005 - September 30, 2010. Grant funding amount is $189,314. annually. Objectives of the project are: 1) Provide training leading to an academic degree or certificate for current VR counselors 2) VR counselors will have knowledge and skills to serve special populations and 3) Student/counselors will participate in and present at national or local professional conferences.
In-Service Training Grant
The In-Service Training Grant addresses VR staff training needs. Recruitment and succession planning are also incorporated into the grant. Funding is from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant is funded from October 1, 2005 - September 30, 2010. The annual funding amount is $19,413. Targeted training for the project includes new counselor training, working with persons with mental and emotional disorders and persons who are blind and deaf, cultural sensitivity, transition, professional interviewing and counseling.
STRIDE Hawai'i
Pacific Basin Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (PBRRTC) is the recipient of a mentoring grant: Successful Transitions in Diverse Environments (STRIDE) Hawai'i. STRIDE is a new mentoring project funded by a five-year grant from the US. Department of Education. It targets mentoring services to selected youth and young adults with disabilities, who are receiving services from VR, live on Oahu and are between the ages of 16 and 26. It is the goal of STRIDE Hawai'i to provide opportunities for mentees to move into greater community participation, higher education and employment. Two VR staff are Project Investigators with the grant.
